Onshore power supply on Husøy

As a part of the our energy and fuel saving campaign, we have now installed a new electrical shore supply system at our base on Husøy. The goal is to use this supply instead of the vessel diesel generators when ships are moored for longer periods of time at the base. Normand Mermaid was the first vessel to test this system.

Updated:15.02.2011

The onshore system supplies electricity with a frequency of 60 Hz which is required for modern vessels. To achieve this, a large 350 kW 440 V converter is installed in a container placed on our new quay at the Husøy base. A new high voltage transformer and over 100 meters of ground cables have also been installed in connection with this project.

With this system we hope to reduce fuel cost and engine maintenance cost as well as considerable amounts of emissions to air while our vessels are moored for shorter or longer periods of time.
The project cost of approximately 1,3 mill NOK has partly been funded by the Norwegian NOx-tax fund arrangement.
