Omega Subsea awards contract to Kystdesign for 12 new ROV systems
May 5th, 2025
Omega Subsea has awarded Norwegian ROV manufacturer Kystdesign a major contract for 12 new remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), with deliveries scheduled for 2026. The companies have also entered into an option agreement for 10 additional ROV systems, with deliveries planned for 2027 and 2028.
Of the initial 12 systems, eight will support various vessel and subsea operations for Solstad, while the remaining four are designated for undisclosed clients.
The agreement represents a significant investment in advanced subsea technology and reflects Omega Subsea’s commitment to meeting growing industry demand.
“This contract ensures we are well-positioned for the workload we see coming over the next few years,” says Trond Berge, CEO of Omega Subsea.
“We are seeing increased demand across multiple sectors – not only in traditional oil and gas, but also in offshore wind, renewables, and decommissioning. Having access to a modern fleet of ROVs gives us the flexibility we need to respond quickly, deliver consistently, and meet the expectations of our clients. This agreement provides us with both capacity and confidence as we enter a busy and important phase for the company.”
The investment marks a major step in Omega Subsea’s strategy to build long-term capacity and operational flexibility. With a growing portfolio of projects in both oil and gas and offshore renewables, the company is preparing to take on more integrated roles across the subsea value chain. Expanding access to ROV systems will enable Omega Subsea to reduce lead times, increase availability, and respond more efficiently to client needs.
The initial order includes 12 ROV systems, with options for an additional 10 systems in 2027 and 2028. Omega Subsea will be responsible for the mobilisation, operation, and maintenance of the systems. Each unit will be designed to meet the complex demands of deepwater operations, with a strong focus on performance, efficiency, and reliability.
“This agreement is a natural part of our long-term strategy to strengthen our technical capacity,” Berge adds.
“We aim to be a reliable partner throughout the entire lifecycle of subsea operations – from planning and mobilisation to offshore execution and follow-up. That requires access to the right technology and trusted partners who understand what it takes to deliver in challenging environments,” he says.
CEO of Kystdesign, Tore Nedland, agrees.
“We greatly appreciate the trust that Omega Subsea has placed in us through this contract. We also want to acknowledge their strong strategic foresight and long-term vision. This agreement is a testament to the positive and collaborative relationship we’ve fostered over the past few years,” Nedland says.
According to Berge, the new systems will also enhance the company’s ability to support larger-scale and longer-term projects, both with new and existing clients and in new markets.
“By investing in modern equipment and working with a trusted supplier like Kystdesign, we continue to strengthen our role as a provider of safe, efficient, and reliable subsea services,” Berge concludes.
