Scaling up for a sustainable future
Focus on Sustainability has been an integrated part of our operations for many years. Three of UN’s development goals: “Climate Action”, “Life Below Water” and “Decent Work and Economic Growth” forms the background of our strategy on sustainability.
To remain a leading vessel owner and operator also into the future, Solstad believes that it is essential to intensify our work within this area further.
One of our first major successes within sustainability was the Solstad Green Operations Program launched in 2009. Ambitions has risen since then and our target is to reduce emissions from our fleet with 50%, compared to 2008-level, within 2030 and 100 % within 2050.
Our target is Zero Emissions in our fleet within 2050 and to bring the emissions to targeted levels requires:
- To further develop our operational excellence
- Increase competency on available technologies
- Close cooperation between companies and suppliers to develop new technical solutions
- Evaluate and pilot new technologies and new fuels
- Cooperate with industry, governmental and other organizations
To meet our bold ambitions, we are pleased to announce an important step in this process. Tor Inge Dale, currently Chief Operations Officer (“COO”), is appointed in a newly established role as Chief Sustainability Officer. He started his career in Solstad in 2008, as Environment and Development Engineer, and was a key person in the development of Solstad Green Operations. Tor Inge will lead the Sustainability department effective from 6th of April 2021. In his new role he will be leading the company’s work towards zero emissions, establishing new innovative solutions and ensuring compliance and developments in the full specter of sustainability.
Tor Johan Tveit, will take over the position as COO and lead the Crewing, Technical, HSEQ, Procurement and ICT departments. Tor Johan has worked most of his career in Solstad and has extensive maritime, operational and management background. The last few years he has been Operations Director for the Global AHTS/PSV fleet.
We wish them all the best in their new positions.
